Services

Our services aim to provide a space to listen to God and to reflect on what we’ve heard.  We use ancient spiritual disciplines in a modern context.  Each service focusses on one of the waymarks that we use as a framework to help us understand what being a disciple of Jesus looks like in our time and setting. We use silence to listen to God which might feel a bit unfamiliar at first, but allows God to speak to us.

We have designed each service to be very simple so that anyone can lead, without the need for musicians, paid staff or ordinands. You can download the service sheets here.

If you live in, or are visiting, South Lakeland, we would be delighted to welcome you to a service at St Mary’s Church, Longsleddale (near Kendal) at 10:30 am on the 1st Sunday of the month (except August). We share cake and coffee afterwards in the adjacent hall. Limited parking is available outside the church which is reached by a very narrow road. Please contact us if you’d like to join us or would like further information.

A group also meets in the Penrith area on a monthly basis, and we encourage other groups to use our materials to develop their own Abbey services. Abbey Penrith meets on the first Sunday of the month at 10.00 in a variety of venues including St Ninian’s on the River Eamont or outdoors in the local area. Details can be found on the Facebook group which you can request to join here.
